I have been a freelance writer since 2003, for clients including The Guardian, The Observer, the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Times Travel. Please see my portfolio of journalism and copywriting.
When I was in the UK I wrote and edited four MediaGuardian books - and sub-edited for clients including Guardian Unlimited, Reed Business Information and Telegraph Create.
I also recorded a series of podcasts for Guardian Unlimited Travel, and produced audio content for WWF.
I moved to Cyprus in July 2008. Since then I have increasingly specialised in Mediterranean travel, alongside business, environment and technology articles.
My last staff job was on the multi-award-winning Guardian website. Under the job title "web guides editor", I was involved in a wide range of site projects. I edited the innovative Guardian weblog, the first blog by a UK national newspaper; and created the vast world news guide, offering links to newspapers all over the world.
As part of the Guardian Unlimited news team, I also wrote news and features and worked on the Wrap, the morning email press round-up.
My first job in journalism was as a sub-editor across two trade newspapers, Doctor and Hospital Doctor, read by GPs and hospital doctors respectively.
I was quickly promoted to senior sub on a sister medical title, Update; and then to deputy chief sub and finally chief sub on Hospital Doctor.
2:1 in English at Jesus College, Oxford, in 1996. I'd won a scholarship in 1994.
Four As at A-level at Eton College - in English, history, maths and further maths. When I was 11, I won a scholarship open only to children from state schools.
Like all journalists I have a wide range of interests, so it would be impossible to list them all here - but here is a taste.
My mother is Greek Cypriot and my father is English. This has interested me in the Cyprus problem and globalisation generally.
I have travelled extensively in Greece and Cyprus.
My father is from Portsmouth - which makes me, for my sins, a Pompey fan.
I love walking in mountains - especially in Mediterranean countries. I have run the London Marathon.
I love stories, art, music, films, photography and gadgets.
